January 9, 2020

Hi everybody,

Happy new year!

In the beginning of 2020, we are going to share with you the top 10 Internet buzzwords of last year which have been gone viral and frequently used with a humorous and ironic way by Internet users.

TOP 10

zán yě bù zhī dào, zán yě bù gǎn wèn

 ' 咱   也 不  知   道,咱   也  不   敢    问 '

(I don’t know and don’t dare to ask.)

TOP 9

wǒ bú yào nǐ jué de, wǒ yào wǒ jué de

' 我  不  要 你  觉  得, 我   要   我  觉 得 '

It was said by an actor called Huang Xiaoming who acted very bossy in a Chinese reality TV show- The Chinese Restaurant. After that, people copy this to tease someone’s bossy character.

It’s to describe something that makes people so exciting or impulsive that they are not able to control what they say or do or that thing is always hunting in their mind, maybe because of a song, a saying or something stimulating them.

TOP 7

                                                              gàng jīng

' 杠    精 '

(People who enjoy arguing with others)

jiǎng gàng jīng zhī qián, xiān lái kàn kan  zhè ge cí: tái gàng, yì sì

  讲   ' 杠     精 ' 之   前, 先   来     看   看     这  个 词:抬  杠,  意 思

Before learning '杠精 (gàng jīng)', we’ll have to know a word- 抬杠(tái gàng) which originally means lifting the barbell and its extended meaning is to describe the action of enjoying arguing with other people. So we use 杠精 to describe those kind of people who enjoy arguing with people.

 还   有    另  一 个意 思,给  对    方     点    颜   色  看   看。

This word originally means to hold the antique walnut in hand to rub and rotate it to make its surface very smooth. Now we use it to express you love something or someone so much that you want to hold them in your hand to play with them. And another meaning of this word is to give others a lesson but it’s a humorous way to say.

It came out from a children's TV series of China in which a prince has a bit accent when he speaks Chinese.

His original saying is ‘与你无关’ (yǔ nǐ wú guān, none of your business) but it sounds like ‘雨女无瓜’(yǔ nǚ wú guā), so we use this new created word in the social networks to express the same meaning.

' 我   酸   了 '
